چکیده

Hydrate slurry has been reported to be a suitable secondary fluid for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. The latent heat of CO2 hydrate is 387 kJ/kg under phase equilibrium condition of 7 °C and 30 bar. The utilization of CO2 hydrate slurry in air-conditioning systems is promising in improving the energy efficiency and shifting energy supply and demand load as well as relieving greenhouse effect caused by normal refrigerants like CFCs, HCFCs etc. The production of CO2 hydrate slurry in a coil heat exchanger is investigated in this study. Crystals are supposed to firstly form on the wall of the tube, generating a solid layer. The appearance of the solid layer increases the heat resistance from liquid to the refrigerant. Type-III antifreeze proteins have been added to the solution to better control the crystallization process of hydrate formation since AFPs have proven to be an effective hydrate formation preventer which is environment friendly. A kinetic model is developed based on the gas hydrate growth model of Skovborg and Rusmussen (1994), taking the mass transfer process to be the rate-control step. The influence of pressure, temperature and concentration of the hydrate formation preventer on the diffusion coefficient of dissolved gas into the solid interface is investigated and mainly the concentration of hydrate formation preventer appears to have a large impact. Results show that the growth rate decreases with the increase of the concentration of AFPs. Higher concentrations of AFPs move the equilibrium line to slightly higher temperatures.

Correlation of the Growth Rate of the Hydrate Layer at a Guest/Liquid-Water Interface to Mass Transfer Resistance

Growth rate of a hydrate layer at the guest/liquid-water interface is analyzed considering the conjugate process of the mass-transfer and hydrate crystal growth. Hydrate-layer growth rate data in the literature are often compiled according to the system subcooling (∆T ≡ Teq − Tex, where Teq is the equilibrium dissociation temperature of the hydrate and Tex is the system temperature), suggesting...

Kinetics of Propane Hydrate Formation in Agitated Reactor: A Mass Transfer Approach

Understanding the kinetics of gas hydrate formation is essential to model and predict the hydrate formation (or dissociation) process. In the present paper, we investigated the formation of pure propane gas hydrate as a former gas. In this regard, several experiments were conducted to measure the rate of hydrate formation under various pressures (410 to 510 kPa) and temperatures (274 K to 277 K...

Induced Charge Density and Thin Liquid Film at Hydrate/Methane Gas Interfaces

The hydrate/methane gas interface is studied by molecular dynamics simulations. Below the hydrate melting temperature a thin liquid film forms with an associated surface charge density and electrostatic potential. The thickness of the thin liquid film, the charge density, and electrostatic potential at the hydrate/gas interface are established at different subcooling temperatures for the first ...

Experimental Measurement and Kinetic Modeling of Ethane Gas Hydrate in the Presence of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Surfactant

Abstract: In this work, the kinetics of ethane hydrate formation has been studied experimentally and a kinetic model based on chemical affinity has been described for predicting the hydrate growth process in the stirred batch reactor at a constant volume. The experiments were done with both pure water and aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The effect of SDS on formation kineti...
